Paul Zanette, AHA Player of the Year, signed with AHL Hamilton Bulldogs

Paul Zanette, a Niagara University Purple Eagles’ men's hockey senior and 2011 Hobey Baker finalist, became the newest Purple Eagle to enter the professional hockey ranks, signing a deal with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.

The Nobleton native will join the AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens Tuesday, joining former teammate Bryan Haczyk as the second Purple Eagle to go pro so far after the 2010-11 season.

"I'm so excited for what my future holds," Zanette said. "The past four years at Niagara have been a blast and have prepared me for this. I can't thank my coaches, teammates and everyone else at Niagara enough for everything. I'll be leaving here with a bachelor's degree and a bright future."

During the 2010-11 season, Zanette scored a careerhigh 29 goals, 26 assists and 55 points, currently second in the nation in points per game (1.57) and goals per game (0.83). Paul is the 2010-11 Atlantic Hockey Association Player of the Year and one of just 10 Purple Eagles all-time to have scored at least 50 career goals and 50 career assists.
